Two devotional aedicules or shrines were built on the interior and exterior elevations of the gate. Today, their state of preservation is very fragile. On the interior face to the left is the aedicule of the Oration in the Garden, consisting of a wooden canopy installed to protect the fresco depicting the kneeling Christ looking towards an angel at the top right who shows him the symbols of the Passion (cross and chalice). At Christ’s feet, the apostles Peter, James and John are sleeping. The fresco is the work of an unknown artist from the mid-16th century.
On the left wall of the exterior side was the aedicule of the Holy Family: the fresco has now faded away but, based on rare graphic and photographic evidence, it has been attributed to the 16th century, with later retouches.
