Seven of Rome’s eleven aqueducts, built between the 4th century BC and the late imperial age, flowed into the Porta Maggiore. The Aqua Marcia (144 BC), the Aqua Tepula, (125 BC), the Aqua Iulia (33 BC), the Aqua Claudia (52 AD) and the Anio Novus (52 AD), which had their conduits above ground, were incorporated in the construction of the Aurelian Wall and are still partly visible today.
