The dressing of two Roman soldiers
What may appear to us today as a static monument or an abstract space was once a living environment, essential to the protection of the city—especially during times when it was threatened by the “barbarian” populations pressing at its borders.
We are at the end of the 3rd century AD. A common soldier, as he does every day, dons his mail, puts on his weapons, and assists his commander in fastening his cuirass. Weapons are prepared, the efficiency of the equipment is checked, and each man takes up his assigned post on guard duty.
In this way, with the help of props and costumes inspired by the ancient sources that have come down to us, we can imagine one of the many scenes that would have taken place within the towers during the periods when they fully served their strategic defensive function.
